Road to Hymalyas

The Himalayas: Breath of Contemplation Toward the Mother Goddess To humanity, the Himalayas transcend a formidable barrier of rock and ice; they represent a sacred sanctuary embracing the motherhood of the Earth. In Sherpa culture, Mount Everest is revered as 'Chomolungma' (Mother Goddess of the World), combining 'Chomo' (Goddess) and 'Lungma' (Earth/World). In Nepali, it is known as 'Sagarmatha' (Goddess of the Sky). The highest peaks on Earth thus rest upon the maternal embrace of the universe. In an oxygen-depleted world of snow and ice, mountaineers stake their lives on every step toward the summit. From two expeditions alongside Captain Um Hong-gil to the historic journey onto the virgin peaks of Jugal Himal, the high mountains teach humility, endurance, and deep contemplation rather than conquest. The Haenyeo who dive into the deepest abyss in the name of mothers and the mountaineers who cross the threshold of life and death beneath the highest skies share the same profound trajectory of motherhood and vital life force. This visual record captures that sublime dialogue between human limitation and nature's grandeur.
